1. Introduction and scope
This document explains how Generator Associates (“we”, “us”, “the publisher”) handles personal information of visitors to generatorassociates.com. It covers every page of the site, including the home shortlist, event notes, about and contact pages, redirect pages and legal notices.
By using the site you acknowledge the practices described here. If you do not agree with this policy, please stop using the site. We designed this notice to be readable in plain English while meeting our obligations under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Generator Associates publishes an editorial shortlist of live poker tournaments and club events in New Zealand. We are not a casino, club, tournament organiser or betting operator. When you leave our pages for an organiser’s site, that organiser’s privacy notice applies.
2. Who we are
The agency collecting personal information for this website is the Generator Associates editorial team that operates generatorassociates.com. For privacy questions email hello@generatorassociates.com. We aim to reply with a substantive answer within two working days.
If you are writing about a data access or correction request, please include enough detail for us to find your information (for example the email address you used on the contact form and an approximate date).
3. What personal information we collect
Information you choose to send. If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message content you enter, plus any other details you voluntarily include. We do not ask for payment card data, National Student Number, IRD number or government ID on this site.
Technical information created by browsing. When you load our pages, servers and security tools may process IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser type and version, device and operating-system signals, referring URL, pages viewed, timestamps and basic error logs. This is ordinary website telemetry used to keep the service online and secure.
Preference storage. We store your cookie-banner choice locally on your device so we do not show the banner on every visit. Details are in the Cookie policy.
Optional analytics. If you choose “Accept all” on the cookie banner, we may process aggregated interaction metrics such as which pages or event cards are opened most often. These metrics help us improve navigation and content clarity. They are not used to build marketing profiles for sale.
You do not need an account to read the shortlist. We do not operate a public membership login on this domain.
4. Why we collect it
We use personal information only for the following purposes:
- to operate, secure and troubleshoot generatorassociates.com;
- to understand aggregate demand for pages and ranking cards so we can improve the shortlist;
- to answer messages you send through the contact form;
- to keep basic records of correspondence where needed for continuity;
- to meet legal obligations that apply to us in New Zealand; and
- to enforce our Terms of use if misuse is suspected.
We do not sell personal information. We do not run a marketing email list from this contact form, and we do not use your details for cold outreach unrelated to your enquiry.
5. Lawful basis under the Privacy Act 2020
We collect and use personal information in ways that are consistent with the information privacy principles in the Privacy Act 2020. In practice that means:
- technical and security logs are collected because they are necessary to run a public website safely;
- contact-form information is collected because you choose to send it to us for a reply;
- optional analytics run only after you accept them through the cookie banner; and
- we limit use to the purposes described in this policy unless a further use is authorised by law or by you.
6. Cookies and similar technologies

7. Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent contact lists. Limited personal information may be processed by service providers that help us run the site, for example:
- web hosting and content-delivery providers;
- email or form-delivery tools used to receive contact messages;
- security and uptime monitoring; and
- analytics providers, but only if you accepted optional analytics.
Those providers may process technical or message data only on our instructions and only to the extent needed to deliver their service. We disclose information to authorities only when New Zealand law requires a formal request or when disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety or the integrity of the site.
8. External organiser links
Event cards and redirect pages lead to third-party organiser sites (for example casino, club or listing pages). Once you leave generatorassociates.com, that organiser is responsible for any personal information it collects. We recommend reading their privacy notices before registering, joining a membership programme or paying a buy-in.
9. Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above:
- server and security logs are typically rotated within 90 days unless a longer period is needed to investigate abuse;
- contact messages are kept for up to 12 months after the enquiry is closed so we can see history if you write again, then deleted or anonymised;
- cookie-preference records remain on your device until you clear site data or change your choice.
If you ask us to delete a contact message sooner, we will do so unless we must keep a limited record for legal or security reasons.
10. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to contact messages is limited to people who need them to reply. We use password-protected accounts and multi-factor authentication where available. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure; if you believe there has been a breach involving your information, contact us immediately at hello@generatorassociates.com.
11. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct information that is wrong, incomplete or misleading. You may also ask us to delete contact correspondence we no longer need. Write to hello@generatorassociates.com.
We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable and within the timeframes expected under New Zealand privacy law. If we refuse a request, we will explain why. You may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you are not satisfied with our response.
12. Children and age-sensitive content
This site discusses live poker and casino-style events aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for marketing or profiling. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it promptly.
Venue operators linked from this site may impose their own age or membership rules. Those rules are set by the organiser, not by Generator Associates.
13. International transfers
Some hosting, email or analytics providers may process data on servers outside New Zealand. Where that happens we look for providers that offer appropriate contractual and security safeguards for personal information. If you have questions about a specific transfer, contact us and we will explain what we can about the tools in use at that time.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site, our tools or the law evolves. The “Effective from” date at the top of the page will change when we publish a revision. Material changes will be reflected on this page before they take effect where practical. Continued use of the site after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
